Electrics
Another new skill to learn. Even though this is a frightening task I was determined to wire the car from scratch. After many hours of researching on the web and reading loads of Haynes manuals I was not getting anywhere fast. Flicking through Pop Browns catalogue I stumbled across a Hot Rod wiring diagram. Got on the phone and ordered it - best £4 ever spent. At last a diagram that made sense. I was now on a roll. The next page(s) will show you how I get on with this task.
A battery box (from Pop Browns), heavy duty battery and new 75amp alternator was purchased from a local firm.
A trip to Halfords to source some Positive and Negative 4awg cable, Gold plated battery terminals, earthing point and starter motor connector.
Another purchase from Pop Browns was this 8 fuse Wiring Kit. The kit included all connections, wiring tape and full install instructions. As you can see in the picture the panel also has a security switch (STOP/RUN). More to come as I fit this unit.
I did not want an ignition switch so I opted to buy one of these Starter Switch panels (Car Builder Solutions). It has a dooms day ignition switch, warning light and push button starter including all connections and cable. Here we have a box full of cables from the Wiring kit (plus others) and one box with heat shrink, cables connectors, dash lights etc. Boxes came from IKEA which were useful for stacking on top of each other. Lots of diagrams were carried out and will get converted to a CAD package. This will make a nice neat copy for my records.
